Bishop Johnson was called to the ministry in 1980 and began preaching on the street corners of Jackson, MI.
- In 1983, Bishop Johnson married First Lady Rhoda Johnson, and four children were born from their union.
- Fall of 1998, Bishop Johnson founded Greater Bible Way Temple in Bay City, MI, where he pastored for 18 years. The church celebrated the burning of the church mortgage in 2016.
- As a result of the call of God to Louisville, KY, Bishop Johnson began his pastorate at Greater Bethel Temple in 2016. Dist. Elder Phillip Johnson became the Pastor of Apostolic Life Church (formerly Greater Bible Way Temple) within the same year.
- At the 2022 Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. Summer Convention, Bishop Johnson was elevated to the office of Bishophric over the 54th Episcopal Diocese of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. Dominican Republic.
